I disagree with the provincial government - protecting endangered species and Ontario’s natural beauty and biodiversity should NEVER take a backseat to human development interests. I would argue that environmental protections require developers to reach a higher degree of due diligence, resulting in better projects in the long term - there is no point fast tracking bad infrastructure, housing, commercial, or any other kind of development project, if the end result will be poor quality anyway.
Also, the provincial government rightly recognizes the natural wealth of our province - currently, the government’s focus is on habitable land and minerals, but I think natural beauty and biodiversity should garner equal focus. There is no reason to live in Ontario if it is an Ontario with no natural beauty, poor quality infrastructure, and rushed yet expensive housing.
Thank you.
