I Oppose Bill 5 – Protect Our Land, Our Rights, and Our Democracy
I strongly oppose Bill 5.
This bill gives the Premier and his cabinet sweeping, undemocratic powers to override provincial and municipal laws, including those that protect our environment, communities, and Indigenous rights. It would allow decisions to be made behind closed doors, with no requirement for transparency or consultation, especially with the First Peoples of this land.
Indigenous sovereignty is not a box to check off. It is a living responsibility to protect the land, water, and future generations. Bill 5 threatens that responsibility by allowing the government to bypass meaningful consultation and environmental protections.
I urge all leaders in Ontario to reject this bill. True leadership means protecting the environment, respecting Indigenous nations, and upholding democratic processes — not stripping them away.
Protect the land. Stand with communities. Say no to Bill 5.
