Bill 5 is so recklessly destructive, short-sighted, and ignorant that it should never have made it this far in the political process. Equally, hard-working Ontarians should not have their time wasted having to rally against proposals like this which are such a blatant display of greed and/or ignorance. This bill reveals either that this government is deeply uninformed regarding how natural processes and systems work, in which case they have no business governing this province, or that they are knowingly choosing to pursue a path of wanton destruction. Or, in the worst case, both. No legitimate argument can be made which puts development and nature in opposition to each other. The most vibrant, viable, and desirable places to live are made possible through integration with and respect for the natural world, not through its annihilation.

We are well past pretending that humans even have the option to remove or further limit environmental, ecological, and habitat protections, without wildly jeopardizing our own continued existence. Instead, we require and demand *additional* supports and protections for endangered and threatened species, for wetlands, for fragile habitats.

We require the government to recognize the biodiversity crisis instead of accelerating it. We require that the Ontario government govern this province for the benefit of both current and future generations. We require this government to display basic competence in understanding the fundamental principles of the habitat and natural systems on which we are all dependent.
