I’m writing to express my deep concerns about Bill 5.
If passed, Bill 5 would be an unprecedented attack on the Rule of Law and on Endangered Species protections in Ontario.
We need to protect the biodiversity of this province, not remove protections. Bill 5 would eliminate environmental assessment processes and expedite resource extraction like mining initiatives, even in ecologically sensitive areas. The creation of “special economic zones” where Cabinet can exempt sensitive areas and corporations from abiding by established laws is deeply concerning.
This could lead to irreversible damage to the ecosystem. We all live here and need to be able to rely on biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem. Bill 5 would endanger the health of all life in this province.
