This is abysmal policy, do not enact Bill 5 as currently written.
Repealing Ontario’s Endangered Species Act, 2007 is a terrible idea as it is largely the greatest protection for endangered, threatened and special concern species in Ontario. The habitat definition in "Unleashing Ontario's Economy" is nonsensical; wildlife requires appropriate habitat. Isolating the definition of habitat to a den is not reflective of reality and will severely impact ecosystems. It will take a while (long after Ford and his Government have passed) for the impact to be felt by humans, but by then it will be too late.
Curtailing Indigenous involvement of proposed developments by ending archeological assessment requirements directly conflicts with the Duty to Consult and is not in the spirit of reconciliation and reciprocity to the lands we all share.
The creation of Special Economic Zones is pandemonium. Lands without criteria, exempt from municipal and provincial law are not in the spirit of democracy. No zones should be lawless, that's the whole point of having a government; to protect the people and the planet.
