Why is the Ontario government pursuing a more top-down, authoritarian approach to development.
Is this not what we as Canadians currently criticize in countries such as the U.S., India and Hungary? It would appear that the only reason for the Special Economic Zones Act is to remove the ability of local communities to protect their neighbourhoods, their cultures, their resources. And for advocacy groups to be silenced. It may be messier to go through a process of consultation, but the result is always a better province to live in. That is why the process of consultation exists - to correct the routine damages that were occurring before rules were put in place.
