This bill must be stopped. Creating SEZs will harm Ontarians in the long run by allowing foreign investors to financially benefit from reduced taxes and reduced regulations, meanwhile small and local businesses outside the SEZs are held to a jigger standard of regulation and permitting. The Conservative Party was once the champion of small business and innovation. This will choke out local entrepreneurship.
Additionally, SEZs are extremely likely to decimate terrestrial and aquatic habitats within the zone. Maintaining healthy habitats not only enables sustainability of wildlife but ensures Ontarians have clean drinking water!!
These zones reduce fair and equitable competition of business in Ontario and should not be allowed here. Developers and multi-national corporations can play by the rules of all Ontarians or set up shop elsewhere.
