As someone who regularly fishes in the waters around Ontario Place, I’m alarmed by the proposal to exempt this site from the Environmental Bill of Rights. These changes would eliminate public notice and consultation on permits that could directly impact water quality, fish habitat, and shoreline ecosystems.

The waters near Ontario Place are not just recreational—they’re part of a delicate aquatic system that supports a range of species. I’ve seen firsthand how much life exists in that area. Any development that disrupts this balance risks long-term harm, not just to wildlife, but to the people who rely on these waters for enjoyment, connection, and sustenance.

By cutting out public input, the government is sidelining those who know and care about this area the most. It also sets a troubling precedent—removing oversight at a time when we should be doubling down on environmental protection.

This isn’t just about land use. It’s about protecting a living shoreline and the rights of citizens to participate in decisions that affect our environment. These waters belong to the people of Ontario—not private interests—and they deserve our full attention and care.
