It has been proven by the current government that they see regulations only as restraints to profit- making. (Questionable highway construction, abrupt closing of large, busy public spaces with no opportunity for input by the public (including highly trained architect objections), setting up cushy deals to foreign companies behind closed doors, TUNNEL under a Highway?!)
The rules and regulations are there for good reason, and as far as I know, this is still a democracy. Public input IS a requirement. Rules cannot be thrown out because they aren't expedient.
