My thoughts begin with how this is even possible. On the home page of the Ministry of Environment, their slogan states "Leading to healthier communities and economic prosperity through protecting Ontario’s air, land and water." How is removing the one of the main tools in the toolbox to assess the environmental impacts even being proposed? Another main concern is the removal of the traffic study. There are times of the year in our rural community (spring & fall) when there are massive amounts of farm traffic. Taking this out would be catastrophic to the safety of our community. There are tractors pulling equipment, and other tractors hauling harvested crops to the factory (ConAgra Foods). Increasing the truck traffic in our community and NOT having a tool to monitor this? I am also a mother of 3 small children who ride school buses, and drive around to get my kids to school or sports. Furthermore, the concerns with infrastructure. This amount of truck traffic is surely going to impact our roadways. Again, I state that the Ministry's job is to PROTECT our communities and our environment - why is it even considered to remove this assessment??
Another main concern is the impact to the watershed and the species that reside in this area. How can we remove tools to monitor these impacts. This property is prime agricultural farmland, with CLOSE proximity to a creek draining to our Sydenham River - as well as the town of Dresden. The town of Dresden is ironically EXPANDING in this direction - multiple sub divisions that have been built and more planned. There are thousands of people within close proximity to this site, and its expanding.
I OPPOSE THIS PROPOSAL.
