I grew up on very fertile farm land near Dresden Ontario. My family still lives and farms in the area: I care about the quality of the environment there.

I also live in a part of Ontario which relies on a Great Lake for its drinking water. I care about the quality of the water in Great Lakes.

There is no scientific justification for the cancellation of the Environmental Assessment for the York1 Waste Disposal Site Project. If the Assessment had been done, and found there were no risks, or that risks could be successfully mitigated, I could be open to this project proceeding.

But without that, it stinks of corruption -- especially after the "coincidence" of generous political donations from York1 friends to key elected officials involved in this project.

Since January 2024 local citizens have been fighting the expansion of this long closed landfill, which more recently was a bomb disposal area and firing range for the Chatham-Kent Police, unless there is a thorough Environmental Assessment to ensure no toxic chemicals will seep into an adjoining creek. The creek flows into the Sydenham River, which flows into Lake St Clair and the Great Lakes which supply so many Ontarians their drinking water.

Doug Ford should stand by the promise he made during the October 2024 by-election.
