Doug Ford ran on a platform stating that Canada is not for sale, but has filed Bill 5 to speed-up developments and incentivize sales and deals on Ontario land. It serves to initiate development without proper reporting, professional input, or public input. It is designed to silence opposition from taxpayers who don't want their tax dollars funding mega-spas and other vanity projects that not only destroy valuable, beloved properties, but sell them to the highest foreign bidder so the profits don't even stay within Canada. Doug Ford and his government are firmly entrenched in the "it's better to beg for forgiveness than ask permission" camp and are seeking to rewrite law in order to make it permissable on paper. It is not permissable. This bill is contrary to everything Ontarians stand for, and it is meant to eliminate anything that tax-paying Ontarians could stand against when it comes to billionaires and foreign investors profiting off of our lands, our tax dollars, and - if Bill 5 were to pass - our laws.
