I firmly oppose the proposed amendment to Bill 5, which seeks to exempt Ontario Place from essential environmental and heritage protections. This amendment represents a dangerous precedent undermining the fundamental rights of Ontarians to transparency, accountability, and environmental stewardship.

Ontario Place is not just a parcel of land; it is part of our shared natural and cultural heritage. Weakening oversight in order to facilitate the construction of a private spa disregards the voices of Indigenous communities, environmental advocates, and the broader public. It places commercial interests above the preservation of native lands, wildlife, and the democratic process.

I call on Doig Ford and the Government of Ontario to uphold its responsibility to protect public lands and to respect the ecological and historical significance of Ontario Place. Any development must be subject to the same rigorous standards and public scrutiny as other projects across the province. Exemptions that compromise our environment and heritage for short-term economic gains are unacceptable.

Canadians deserve better. I demand transparency, integrity, and a commitment to sustainable and inclusive development!
