The point of an independent committee is to prevent government from interfering in their decisions for political reasons. Allowing government to override scientific advice puts the power in the hands of people that fundamentally do not understand why the suggestions were made because they lack the knowledge to understand. This proposal is, quite frankly, appalling in its political overreach and ignorance.
