As a young Ontarian deeply concerned about the climate and biodiversity crises, I am horrified by Bill 5. It recklessly dismantles the Endangered Species Act and replaces it with a watered-down version that prioritizes corporate profits over our future.
Ontario’s youth are watching. We are tired of being told that the environment must be sacrificed for jobs or development. That is a false choice. Sustainable development is possible, and necessary.
Bill 5 is Trump-style deregulation, plain and simple. It’s short-term thinking that will cause long-term damage. If this Bill passes, we risk losing species forever and degrading the ecosystems that support our health, economy, and communities.
Withdraw this Bill. Protect what’s irreplaceable.
