As currently written, Bill 5 effectively dismantles any meaningful protection for at-risk species in Ontario.
Even more troubling is the bill’s allowance for political interference in the work of the independent scientific committee that determines which species are at risk.
The bill’s redefinition of “habitat” is equally alarming.
Supporters of the bill point to stronger enforcement measures—but when the requirements themselves are so diluted, there's very little left to enforce.
I am deeply concerned and opposed to Bill 5 which seems devastating for species at risk and the natural heritage we all depend on.
