Species at Risk (SAR) deserve MORE protection in Ontario, not less. The watering down of wording/definitions will allow for rampant habitat destruction of SAR all in the name of "progress". Every species has a purpose and ecosystems are highly connected. The true impact of the loss of any one SAR cannot be known. Many SAR can only live in certain habitats, they cannot just "move" somewhere else. Where on the other hand, humans are highly adaptive and intelligent. We can engineer solutions to reach out goals that also balance the protection of SAR, but some people just don't want to take the time or effort, or spend the money to do so. The proposed changes do not protect or respect SAR and I am opposed to this proposal and behalf of all the SAR that cannot speak for themselves. They also deserve the right to exist and prosper in their own way. The proposed changes will allow a "bulldoze now, apologize later" situation, which unfortunately will be too late for the SAR that will be lost in the process.
