The purpose of the Endangered Species Act is to protect. It was crafted with painstaking work by experts in their field to ensure that at least some level of consideration is given to the species which have already been displaced, fragmented, and compromised by our dominance of the landscape. As large as our country is, we don’t have unlimited resources, and we cannot indefinitely expand across the landscape. We do not live here alone. There are some things more intrinsically important than the speed at which a new subdivision can be built, or how much money it costs to pave a new road. We cannot devolve to the state of so many other nations where profit margins are paramount to all. Changing the ESA is not what’s best for our people or our country.
