I am writing to object in the strongest possible way to the proposed exemptions from the Environmental Bill of Rights that will remove the right of Ontarians to be advised of, or to comment on, any required permits at Ontario Place, on or off site, to support the project.
The Environmental Bill of Rights exists to ensure that Ontario's environment is protected in ALL of its forms - including ALL HABITAT AREAS - to ensure its preservation for not only future generations of Ontarians to enjoy, but for Canada's ecosystem to THRIVE AND PROSPER. We do NOT NEED further ecosystem degradation, we need to STRENGTHEN our environmental protections.
As this applies to Ontario Place, thousands of Ontarians have spoken out about their concerns related to protection of this fragile waterfront ecosystem. The proposal of Bill 5 is absolutely disgraceful to Ontarians, and Ontario's precious ecology and endangered species. This proposal is not in the public interest, and will not benefit Ontario citizens - only the private interests of foreign companies.
Please, do not sacrifice our environment for industrialization. This bill would be devastating to endangered species and their habitats, we do not need more fragmentation. If Canada is "not for sale", then our environment shouldn't be either.
