This is a ridiculous proposal. I understand wanting to eliminate redundancies between federal and provIncial policies, but this act is so important for species at risk. The proposed changes have a much smaller scope and would not adequately protect vulnerable species. Yes, there is some overlap between federal and provincial processes, but allowing projects to move forward before adequate assessments have taken place and licenses are processed is not acceptable. The Endangered Species Act requires licensing to ensure the conservation of species at risk. Skipping this step effectively puts these species at further risk of extirpation. I know that timelines for projects can be long but this is not the answer.
