Hi there,
Thank you for the work you do for Ontarians.
This note asks that you do NOT change the Endangered Species Act (2007), and replace with another Act which is less stringent.
I acknowledge that we have a housing and housing affordability crisis. These are just two of the many crises underway today. In my view, the biodiversity crisis, climate change, and inequality are even higher priorities on the list of crises we face.
As an Ontarian, I do not want shortcuts to build fast housing with less assessment and less accountability and transparency. The Greenbelt saga showed what can happen when we try to move too fast and without due process and accountability. My concern is that this type of stripping processes of any real substance and allowing the government to choose who, what, where, how is going to do the same. It is all I hear people talking about. Getting a quick win on some new development is not worth the backlash this will cause. And, it is not worth damaging other equally important priorities like nature, ecosystem protection, transparency (who gets to build where), accountability, and indigenous rights.
Please. For my kids and yours, PROTECT NATURE. Stop the railroading just to move forward on one file. It's not worth it. Please keep the Endangered Species Act in place, unchanged.
Proud Ontarian.
