While it is unfortunate for some that environmental law causes delays in business and development, the fact is that those laws exist to ensure that biodiversity and environment, which is not economically profitable to big business and government, is given precedence over short term, typically private, economic interests. Environmental laws are the lawmaker and constituent going to bat for biodiversity when most people in positions of influence and power will not consider stakes other than their potential profit.
