I am strongly opposed to this proposal. It fundamentally destroys existing species protection regulations and ignores science on conservation.
Cutting back bureaucratic hurdles to development cannot come at the cost of weakening already inadequate conservation legislation. We cannot sacrifice the natural richness of Ontario to the altar of economic development. It is a short sighted and misinformed policy that will cost the people of Ontario their natural heritage.
Fauna and flora require more than their immediate surroundings to survive. The idea that all that needs protecting is a burrow or a root zone is outrageous. Common sense, never mind scientific evidence, is enough to see the flaws and inadequacies of the proposal. It is self evident to lay person such as myself that this would do nothing to protect any species or habitat.
This proposal is destructive and sells out Ontario's natural bounty. I do not support it.
