I am an Ontarian and Canadian Citizen and I strongly object and oppose the proposed amendments to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act 2023, in particular, Schedule 8 of the Protect Ontario By Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025.
The Environmental Bill Of Rights states in Part II that "minimum levels of public participation that must be met before the Government of Ontario makes decisions on certain kinds of environmentally significant proposals for policies, Acts, regulations, and instruments." Schedule 8 proposes an exemption to these requirements. Such an exemption will remove the participation and communication with the public stakeholders who will be most affected by the redevelopment of Ontario Place.
It is also extremely irresponsible to allow development of public lands without meeting minimum environmental standards and public consultation. No business or investment is worth this deterioration of the previous well thought out development process. It will lead to long term unwanted consequences and be detrimental to the health of our environment.
