I strongly disagree with the proposed changes and would like to see the existing ESA remain in place. The changes proposed appear to be anti-science ad anti-evidence; the purpose of protecting spaces (rather than restoring) is to protect the entire system needed to support endangered species; these organisms cannot exist in a vacuum and their needs may be more specific or interconnected than we currently understand.
The destruction of a species or habitat is permanent; the ESA has a deliberate high level of rigor to protect species and places for the future of all Ontarians. While there may be common sense changes (for example, perhaps federal recovery documents may be useful in place of provincial recovery documents) the overall proposed changes are sweeping and potentially harmful to our shared natural heritage.
