I oppose this Act and its enabling of the Ford administration to skip established procedures. No project should be above rules, Acts, Regulations, Instruments (such as municipal by-laws) or conditions. We need to understand risks in order to mitigate them. As Ontarians, we are proud to be so well connected to our environment- the province is ours to discover. This Act proposes devastating changes to our consideration of ‘nature’ and its fragile ecosystems. Unsurprisingly of this government, capable of destroying an ecosystem overnight at Ontario Place without due assessments. Do we need to further assess how to better utilize our natural resources? Yes, absolutely. But these aren’t infinite, and the harm proposed herein irreversible in our lifetime. Let’s try and think a few generations ahead, rather than tomorrow’s dollar.
