The proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act are nothing short of dangerous. Like all other pieces of legislation, the Endangered Species Act was developed over time as a response or a solution to a “problem”. In this case, uncontrolled human development and activity had an adverse effect on wildlife and ecosystems. Without controls in place, certain species faced extinction. Ontarians saw the value in protecting vulnerable species not only for the benefit to the species itself but to the value to humankind as well. Upending it to be able to bulldoze our province away for more housing is shortsighted.
This current government’s solution to the housing crisis is like taking a machete to address a problem that should be solved with a scalpel. You wish to take the easy way out without regard to the destruction that would ensue. That’s the trump approach. We’re better than that here in Ontario and Canada.
Be intelligent. Be thoughtful. Use science. I implore you to do better, much much better!
