I wholeheartedly disagree with this “shoot first, ask questions later” approach. We should be INCREASING protections for animals and the environment, not reducing them. The proposed changes make no mention of protecting habitats for migrating animals, for example. Animal habitats are more than just where a species creates a nest. Indeed, the nesting period of birds lasts only a few weeks out of the year. Once the young have fledged, the adult birds often begin their migration and they require many places to stop along the way for the duration of their journey — something I would not expect the average developer, for example, to know or care about. However, Ontario and its waters are NOT just for developers and the land isn’t exclusively for some sort of economic benefit! We have to prioritize the environment and plants and animals within over all other considerations, so it can provide for us and generations to come.
