Hello, I don't actually believe you will listen to any of the comments that are opposed to Bill 5, but I am registering my concerns here so when I meet other citizens on the street to protest this Bill, I will know that I have done all I can. This Bill is an egregious overstep of environmental protections and Indigenous rights. Nothing is more important than the water, the land, and the air. We must do all we can to preserve and protect it. Extraction projects should not be fast-tracked in the name of economic progress, but there is no progress when there is no clean water to drink, clean air to breath, and fertile land in which to grow our food. changes to existing protections should not be allowed in the name of helping to secure economic progress during times of uncertainty brought on by Trump tariffs. The Bill should not allow provincial governments to escape accountability by civil society or legal entities for their actions on the environment. And, we need to strengthen protections for species at risk, not weaken them. All economic projects require strict environmental review. We can see that the developers are donating money to the Progressive Conservative party in order to bribe the government to allow disastrous developments to move through review processes more quickly. It is abhorrent what this Bill is proposing and I disagree with it in its entirety.
