I am deeply opposed to this new proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act. While I understand that the housing crisis requires new development and quickly, there are other ways to improve efficiency without targeting our most vulnerable animals and plants. Consultation and consent from Indigenous communities to mine and build on their land is a critical part of reparations and protecting endangered and at risk species is crucial to preserve biodiversity and avoid losing keystone species that could further disrupt our ecosystem functions. With climate change as an ever present threat to all humans, it’s imperative that we consider this is in all changes to policy and this proposal does not. There is no clear path forward proposed that shows how things would be streamlined while still considering these species at risk. It’s a thoughtless proposal that reads more like axing the current processes without an improved plan suggestion besides « ask questions later ». For these reasons and more I strongly object to these changes.
