The endangered species of Ontario need more protection, not less. We are currently experiencing mass biodiversity loss which is only exacerbating the impacts of climate change. These changes will cause many species that have important ecological functions to become extinct in Ontario. The cost of the loss of these species will be greater down the line that the immediate gain of a shorter process.
Due to the high level of urbanization, Ontario species have learned to live in small and fragmented habitats. Redefining what is considered habitat will be a devastating loss.
We should be putting all our energy towards reversing and slowing the effects of climate change, not exacerbating it.
