I am against the proposed repeal of the Endangered Species Act and I am against the proposed introduction of the Species Conservation Act. The reduction in protected habitat, the power of the government to remove or veto species from the protected list, the removal of the concept of "harass", and the registration-first approach will all harm species and the environment.
In the long-term, the reduction in environmental protections will take a toll on the environmental services that nature provides us. Things like agriculture, clean water and air, access to genetic diversity (which is necessary for medical progress), all rely on nature. By reducing the amount of protected habitat and other protections, the people of Ontario (as well as the rest of Canada) will suffer.
