There is no doubt that action is needed on affordable housing for the people of Ontario. However making it easier to disregard the natural environment and to build housing (which is likely not affordable or that is not compatible with existing public transit) does not benefit Ontarians. Degrading nature for this purpose does not serve the people of Ontario either. There does not need to be one or the other. Nature can exist and wise development and infill development can continue. The governments plan to make it easier to develop land at the expense of the natural environment is short sighted and irresponsible. This change to the endangered species act only benefits the developers (generally wealthy individuals), making it easier to build and make money. Rules are in place so that environments are not destroyed at whim. Once the natural environment is destroyed, and critical habitat is lost, it cannot support the species that provide critical ecosystem services, and species will be lost forever.
