I find this proposal to be undemocratic and exploitative. The timing of this motion, whilst many Canadians are focused on our southern neighbours, seems to me to be a deliberate attempt to sneak through a bill that would give the Premier unprecedented powers to hand over public and protected Ontario land to developers without due process. The changes to the Endangered Species Act would have a devastating impact on the province’s environment, which would have long lasting negative impact on its wildlife and residents. This bill also seeks to undermine the powers of municipal government, a key part of Canadian democracy. I am opposed to the passing of this bill, and urge all politicians to vote against it.
