I am completely against the changes to the Endangered Species Act and the proposed Species Conservation Act. The definition of a protected area for a species/animal (its dwelling place) is much too restrictive in the proposed Species Conservation Act is too narrow and will not do anything to protect species. Imagine, if you live in a house and only the bed you sleep on is protected but the roof, walls, and windows are not. What will happen in a storm or a disaster to you and your house - your house will be severely damaged or perhaps even completely destroyed and your livelihood would be severely at risk. This narrow-minded thinking is completely backwards and not what we should be doing when so many species are already at risk in Ontario and more continue to be at risk due to the impacts of biodiversity loss and climate change.
