I am a concerned Northern Ontarian and feel that this new act will devastatingly impact our species who require our help to recover rather than a blind eye to their needs...I dont feel the Ford government cares enough or values nature enough to protect it. I believe that Ford took advantage of our fear of tariffs to use it as a catalyst to bulldoze ahead with mining, highways and ridiculous tunnel proposals at the expense of the natural environment. I dont feel that his government shows enough respect for all species and to fast track development as their expense is deplorable...we need to stop making mother earth pay for our greediness.
I suggest consideration of habitat of a species be taken into account before making a blanket clause basically saying "if the bird nests in a tree, that is the habitat..." much more is true habitat for a bird.
Also simply beefing up enforcement or inspection is simply reactionary not helpful to any flora or fauna. It actually is ineffective because it is after the fact, the damage is done, you have harmed the species, no getting that back and really truthfully in Northern Ontario..who is really going to be policing this? You dont even care for bears anymore...dont get me started on the spring bear hunt!
I think one of your most valuable resources is the MECP staff (as shortstaffed as they are) who I suggest you listen to for their knowledgeable and informed recomendations..they are the voice of reason.
