I do NOT agree that the current approach to the protection and conservation of species at risk is complicated, takes too long to complete, and causes unnecessary delays and costs for housing, transit, and critical infrastructure. The ESA has been unchanged since its inception in 2007 and protects Ontarios most vulnerable wildlife and species at risk. Every province has similar Legislation to protect species at risk and I strongly disagree with these proposed changes. As a biologist, removing current protections for species at risk is deeply concerning. It will allow proponents to have free rein without having projects properly reviewed and screened by scientific professionals to ensure species at risk are being protected. These changes will set Ontario back two decades. The current administration already attempted to remove protections from the greenbelt, conservation authorities, and now the endangered species act. This is negligent behaviour and I am strongly opposed to these changes.
