Bill 5 is a shocking…

Bill 5 is a shocking violation of human rights, environmental rights, and democratic rights. I never thought I'd live to see the day when this would happen in my province.

Nothing in this Bill 5 will protect us from Trump's tariffs.

Nothing in this Bill will support those impacted by tariffs.

Allowing certain industries to build projects and be exempt from environmental laws, labour laws and democratic debate and discussion is something done by dictators. It is contrary to Canadian values.

It will enrich the few (Conservative cronies), disenfranchise the many: workers, Indigenous people, and pollute our land and water. At a time when biodiversity is decreasing and many species are at risk of extinction, it is like (as my mother would have said) cutting off your hand to spite your foot.

The people of Grassy Narrows have been fighting for clean water for over 50 years. How many Indigenous people have died because of mercury poisoning? How many are drinking water polluted by toxic chemicals? Bill 5 will ensure that this desecration can happen anywhere in Ontario.

I thought Mr. Ford said he was going to stand up to Trump, not bow down to him by imitating his destruction of the rule of law.

Who will profit from Bill 5? Not the workers of Ontario. Not our environment. Not Indigenous nations. Only the select few (donors to the Conservative Party of Ontario?) will profit.

I am looking for a government that works for all the people and the planet, not just wealthy companies and investors.

Please toss this Bill into the waste bin and start over again.
