Bill 5 is anti-democratic. I am concerned that it will lead to a lack of public transparency. I am also concerned that it will cause species to lose their habitats due to inadequate or completely absent assessments into the impact of development projects. Biodiversity is incredibly important to the future of our economy, but is undervalued by Bill 5. The IPBES report makes several recommendations for policymakers about the importance of protecting biodiversity, which I am afraid this bill does not consider.
