Scientists and Canadian science should be at the forefront of environmental decisions in Ontario, not politicians looking to be narrow minded and only think of economy. Who is going to be left to enjoy their $1 billion dollar townhome minutes from a new highway when the forest fires rage, there are no crops that will grow, and fish are gone from the water.
Any biologist can tell you that a species habitat cannot be so narrowly defined and still serve any logical purpose. Humans do not only exist in their bedrooms, we have homes with multiple rooms - kitchens, bathrooms, offices. All of that area is needed for us to live our lives, just like the plants and animals in Ontario need space to eat, grow, and reproduce.
Development already gets away with so much in Ontario and to act like this is removing unnecessary red tape for the betterment of anyone is an insult. This is an insult to the legal rights of Indigenous people, our calls to action for truth and reconciliation, and UNDRIP. Please stop being a government that weighs everything from a perspective of being economicallt convenient or not. There is more to life and more to Ontario and Ontarians deserve better.
