I am writing to express strong opposition to Bill 5, a piece of legislation that threatens the well-being of Ontario’s environment, clean energy progress, and Indigenous rights.

Bill 5 proposes to repeal key protections under the Endangered Species Act, undermining decades of work to preserve Ontario’s biodiversity. These rollbacks place vulnerable species and fragile ecosystems at greater risk at a time when urgent action is needed to combat environmental degradation and climate change.

The bill also takes aim at Ontario’s clean energy transition by restricting solar development and entrenching our reliance on polluting fracked gas. This is a regressive move that not only contradicts global trends toward renewable energy but also jeopardizes our ability to meet climate targets and provide affordable, sustainable energy solutions for future generations.

Moreover, Bill 5 disregards the constitutional and moral responsibility to uphold Indigenous rights. It weakens environmental protections that many Indigenous communities rely on to safeguard their land, water, and way of life—without meaningful consultation.

Ontarians deserve a government that champions a clean, equitable, and climate-resilient future. Bill 5 does the opposite. I urge you to withdraw this bill and instead prioritize policies that protect our natural heritage, support clean energy innovation, and honor the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
