Providing exemptions from the Environmental Bill of Rights, removes any accountability from the developers. This action allows developers or industry to simply register and then operate without clear conditions or binding requirements. It removes the province's ability to ensure sustainable operations and avoid adverse impact on endangered species.
It is not acceptable to eliminate recovery strategies. Such an action would make it nearly impossible to assess, mitigate and avoid harm to species.
We understand the need for more housing but we also understand the need for ecologically friendly development to maintain healthy living for ALL. Taking more time to do the job correctly can save a lot of money and time in the end.
We urge the government to maintain the highest standard of development which includes a rigorous permitting process.
