This proposal for the Species Conservation Act and changes to the Endangered Species Act are an absolute affront to Ontarians. When it is common scientific knowledge that we are losing species due to human activities on the landscape we should be pursuing policies that protect all species to the most extent possible. We should be considerate of all species, unless we have forgotten what our elementary teachers taught us about the interconnectedness, interdependence and importance of all life forms.

It is an insult to all Ontarians when Doug Ford seems to be determined to sell out the health of our environment to his developer buddies. This, in spite of the very clear opposition he received when he tried to do this with the greenbelt recently. This behaviour is absolutely abhorrent, and in normal times, would be seen for the morally and ethically corrupt action that it is.

On a broader perspective, when voter turnout and engagement is extremely low, this kind of behaviour in a time when many are struggling to make ends meet, here is Doug Ford very obviously in the business of enriching his rich developer/resource extraction friends, again. This only serves to make regular people feel even more disenfranchised from our political system. This is likely a deliberate policy from this government who quite obviously uses their position to exploit the natural environment for the benefit of the few and to the detriment of Ontario and Ontarians.

These proposals should be rejected wholeheartedly and a strong message sent to Ford that Ontario absolutely has to protect the natural spaces that are left for the benefit of all. All projects should continue to require the highest possible environmental oversight that will ultimately protect water, flora, fauna and the people that live here. The health of all should be of the utmost importance and certainly more important than Ford and his buddies.
