Blaming species protection for delays is misleading. Safeguarding endangered wildlife isn’t what’s holding up housing or infrastructure — it’s poor planning and underinvestment in smart, sustainable development.
Bill 5’s “new approach” sounds like a shortcut to weaken or eliminate protections for species at risk, just to benefit developers. That’s not a solution — it’s a rollback of Ontario’s responsibility to protect biodiversity.
We need better coordination, not weaker laws. Conservation and development can work together — but only if the government values both.
