Dresden is much more than a small little town on a map. For the past 8 years, organizers of the award-winning Dresden Night Market have inspired residents and community groups in Dresden to join hands and build up this community into the vibrant town it is today.
Twice each year in 2017, we welcome thousands of visitors from across the province to enjoy the Dresden Night Market - an event which celebrates local businesses, community groups, musicians, artists, and more. This event has inspired people to move to Dresden, to start businesses in Dresden, and to get involved in the greater effort to improve our community overall.
While we understand the need for more landfills in the province, this proposed location is much too close to the town. We know this because of the huge backlash that has come from the community. No town wants a landfill less than a kilometre away from its downtown. Especially with virtually no consultation or respect for the people who live here.
A landfill isn't going to attract residents. A landfill isn't going to improve the lives of residents. A landfill isn't going to boost our economy.
We respectfully ask that the Environmental Assessment Requirements remain in place. While everything mentioned above considers the social impacts of this project, there are many more environmental impacts that will only be revealed through an Environmental Assessment.
