I would like to echo the sentiments that others have expressed. This proposal is unethical, dangerous, and frankly shameful.
1. Unchecked development is a disaster for the environment. This is irresponsible and dangerous and will have negative consequences for generations to come.
2. Special Economic Zones: in areas exempt from existing laws, development can proceed unchecked. This could mean the end of vital protections for endangered species and indigenous rights.
3. Endangered Species Act at Risk: Dismantling these hard-earned protections is a huge step backwards. Many species will suffer if this goes through. Ontario should be a pioneer of endangered species protection, not a shameless killer of them.
4. Indigenous Rights: The proposed act could trample on the rights of indigenous communities, ignoring decades of progress toward reconciliation.
We all want progress, more housing, better infrastructure, but not at the cost of our environment. Now more than ever in history we need to band together to PROTECT the environment and uphold the wellbeing of our natural spaces, plants, and animals.
