I am concerned about the planned changes to the Mining Act which removes the public's ability to track mining claims. The expanded powers given to the minister which will alter the functioning of the Mining Lands Administration System will impact the administering and registering of mining claims on traditional indigenous lands. With the minister having additional power, what safeguards will be in place to ensure transparency and fairness?
I am also concerned about the changes to the Electricity Act which are directing energy agencies to stop buying goods and services from certain countries. This plan doesn't address the need to be able to buy components that are necessary for renewable energy projects which is critical at a time when we need to be getting off fossil fuels. The planned changes favour fossil fuel technologies which is short sighted thinking in the face of the climate crisis we are facing.
