Premier Ford and my currently elected government of Ontario,

It is taken me the full month to process and find a way to articulate my anger, my disgust at the blatant populist manipulation by titling this devastating bill and proposed changes as the "Protect Ontario By Unleashing our Economy"

Pitting safeguarding our precious, dwindling biodiversity and environment against housing, transit and critical infrastructure is the among the most nefarious and villainous move this government has undertaken.

You don't solve a housing crisis by promising developers single family home sprawl over farmland, greenbelts and irreplaceable ecosystems. You don't solve a mismanaged and poorly funded provincial transit systems by making an enemy of environmental protections. You cannot create a stable healthcare system by destroying the nature vital for people's wellness urban and suburban centres.

Sustainable economic growth is a priority, do not mistake me. But it cannot be fuelled by unfettered greed and complete disregard of the fact that each and every one of us is accountable in our stewardship of the land and the lives we share it with. Bill 5 is solely for the benefit of the wealthy few over the many who will be exponentially poorer if not wiped out for it.

Bill 5 threatens Indigenous rights.
Bill 5 threatens protected habitats of species at risk.
Bill 5 threatens extinction.
Bill 5 threatens food security and the invaluable farmland that feed Ontarians and Canadians.
Bill 5 threatens the health and wellbeing of your constituents

The only thing Bill 5 unleashes is barefaced, ugly greed. And it protects nothing.

I stand in direct and rage-filled opposition to the make-believe titled, Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025. As a resident of Ontario, as a Canadian and as someone who knows that we cannot protect anything by way of destruction. As you are the elected representatives and leaders in our province, I join countless voices demanding you do better.
