This proposal is ludicrous. I would rather wait to ensure the land that my new build is on is built where it's safe, won't destroy any species at risk, or cause any further harm. The world is already in dire straights with global warming and I feel like for the past 25 years all I have been doing is fighting to protect the nature around me. Even as a child, I understood that we needed to work in harmony. Now as an adult I have made my house a dream even with the non-native plants and invasive plants. Come visit, my garden is gorgeous and alive with so many butterflies, birds, pollinators etc. I have my fingers crossed to see toads and snakes. And we get other mammals too popping by. I love it. But I want to be able to enjoy all of Ontario. Not just my little yard. I grew up going to a cottage up past Espanola and I loved it there. If someone were to pave it over just because they could, I would go back so fast and demand justice and as my kiddo would say, the bad guy needs to be in jail.
This province has many amazing places and we have to protect it. There are far better and safer ways to go about building new builds.
Listen to the science, listen to the people that are saying to protect our land. Listen to the indigenous voices. They and all of us deserve to be heard and followed. This land is for all of us, not just those with the money to do whatever they want to do. Mr Ford you were elected on such a small amount of voters, so you better know that those of us that stand for the environment did not vote for you. You need to wake up. We didn't let you build into the greenbelt and we will not let you build wherever you want in Ontario.
This bill will destroy so many of the things I love about our province. I am proud to live here because of the great lakes, the beautiful farm lands, the rivers, the forests with the hidden gems like the waterfalls in Hamilton, or the loons that haunt my nights camping up north, enjoying the stars, watching the fireflies. There are so many animals we read about and we barely see. My childhood favourite was the mountain lion and to find out as an adult that it is no longer in eastern Canada broke a piece of me. We didn't work hard enough to protect it. What if more get lost, and the balance of our biodiversity crumbles. There will be nothing left.
So be a better human being, and support every living creature, big and small, in our beautiful province. This way we can continue to enjoy nature, enjoy wine, and delicious foods, the beaches, and the city with all the greenery without sweating (because without trees Toronto and other cities will be even hotter)
I am tired of constantly fighting but I won't stop. Protect our land, keep it safe. So everyone can live and enjoy the beauty.
