I oppose the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act. The current legislation is science-based and meets the needs. The changes do not guarantee long-term environmental protection and weaken essential safeguards for species and habitats, instead it is all about economics.
The amendments grant too much discretionary power to government, eliminate mandatory recovery plans, and open the door to unchecked development. Ontario’s natural heritage must not be sacrificed for convenience or private interest.
I do not support these changes.
